[One of the better examples of Chip being an "unofficial" leader. He
clearly doesn't want to waste time searching for Tom, but the others do.
And, Gadget basically makes a plea to him ("We're responsible for
him!") for them to continue. If Chip had said no, it's clear they would
have gone home, although teary-eyed. Fortunately, Chip has a heart, so
that doesn't happen.
Also, Gadget's ability to sway Chip's decisions was nicely highlighted
here. In particular, when she explains, "Tom needs our help. Pleeeease,
Chip?" while leaning in close with a coy smile and a hand on his shoulder.
Chip's reluctance evaporates almost instantly, and he even smiles as he
answers, "Well, I suppose somebody's got to keep an eye on him."
