Episode #32: Prehysterical Pet
Rating: ***
AD: 11/3/89
D: John Kimball, Rick Leon
SEd: Bryce Malek
W: Mark Edens
RSC: Stan Blather
Voices: Corey Burton -- Dr. Piltdown
Peter Cullen -- Monterey Jack, other scientist, lab technician
Jim Cummings -- Steggy, museum guard
Tress MacNeille -- little girl, freckled boy
Notes:
Extremely clever idea, satire on various theories of what happened to
the dinosaurs and the stereotyped view of dinos as big, dumb monsters.
Very poorly written in at least one spot. After the RR's finding
that Steggy can talk, he launches into a long, mechanical, phony-sounding
monologue about his planet's civilization and how his kind came to Earth.
Could have been handled more subtly than spilling it all at once.
Dale's predilection for pets -- never seen before or after. Rings
less true than his continuing "media obsession."
Professor Piltdown's voice || Toadie's.
[Problem: The last transmission the dinos received was over millions
of years ago, and Steggy is the only one in that time to decide to try
and find out what happened??
Has perhaps Dale's best understatement of the series: "Oh no! You got
BIG!" Classic Dale. -- MP]
