Notes:
One of the best episodes in which a lot of related themes are juggled
without dropping a single dish -- everything seems to flow together smoothly.
Captain Finn's fish-lib crusade, indignities happening to Monty's tail
(until he finally snaps), Monty pooh-poohing Chip's detective-oriented
approach to solving crimes and preaching action instead. Some real
detection involved.
View of original theme of series: "helping animals in distress" (frozen
fish, Nemo).
Captain Finn genteelly obsessed (doesn't really pop out till the attempt
to ram the dam) -- a voice parody of James Mason in
20,000 Leagues.
"Barnacle Bill the barnacle" -- voice parody of Andy Devine (Also cf.
Cummings' voice as a Toon bullet in
Roger Rabbit,
Darkwing Duck's
Herb Muddlefoot).
[Barnacle Bill was also the name of one of Popeye's old sailor pals
(from the original strip), but it's so obscure it's hard to say if this
was intentional or not. -- MP]
