Episode #39: The Last Leprechaun
Rating: ***
AD: 11/21/89
D: John Kimball, Bob Zamboni
SEd: Bryce Malek
W: David Wise
RSC: (none)
Voices: Corey Burton -- other leprechaun
Peter Cullen -- Monterey Jack
Patti Howeth -- Banshee
Tress MacNeille
Rob Paulsen -- Darby Spree
Notes:
(Seemingly) obligatory leprechaun episode better than most. Darby
Spree a likable character, Howeth provides a good villain voice (Banshee),
the idea of leprechaun slaves is original.
Dale gets a chance to dress in leprechaun costume. Also comes
up with plan that routs banshee.
Obsession: Dale, pot of gold (media image).
[Excellent "team" episode -- everyone gets a chance to shine. Monterey
and Zipper getting the pot back to its hiding place, Gadget's usual kit-bashing
to move the pot & her idea with the chandelier, Dale's clever plan
to reflect the Banshee's wail, and Chip's usual direction to get them out
of the "Lair of the Little Folk" (almost twice, if Darby hadn't returned
that first time) as he refuses to give up.
One of the best "Dale" episodes. He gets the Rangers into trouble, but
also
helps to get them out by freeing the leprechauns. Displays
his own stubbornness nicely. "Well
I'm a Rescue Ranger! And
I'm
not giving up!"
Chip has a surprising line, too: "So I was wrong." (In ref to the existence
of leprechauns). -- MP]
