What's this thing been through so far, anyway?
2004 - 11 - 04

Well, it appears that runawaywords.com is probably belly-up, so, it's time to find a new host again. Fortunately, I run my own webserver now, so problem solved. The Gadget Hackwrench Homepage's new URL is http://rrdatabase.dyndns.org/~gadget/. I also tweaked the stylesheet a little bit since I last made an update entry. This site needs some work, I think - since I know SSI now, and I'm on my own server so I know I can use it, there's a whole lot of things that come to mind in terms of ideas for improvement - but for the moment I'm going to make sure that all links are updated and generally get it settled, then worry about all of that a little later.

2004 - 06 - 07

Took the time and finally fixed up the RR Code page. It's now stylistically much better matched with the rest of the site, and the code itself is now up to(!) version 1.0.

2004 - 02 - 19

Adjusted the stylesheet a little, and went back into the IOG page and fixed the abomination of HTML that all the TABLE code was - I somehow missed that page in the big cleanup effort I made in the last update. I also stopped using most FONT tags, replacing them with DIV and SPAN tags with attached CSS classes instead. Now I'm doing things right ;)

And - can't believe I forgot to mention it in the last entry - the site's on a new host yet again. It's official home is now http://www.runawaywords.com/winston/gadget/.

2004 - 02 - 17

The site's undergone a good overhaul in terms of appearance and coding. There'll be no more misusing HTML tags on my watch. I cleaned out TONS of extraneous or just plain lousy code - I think I finally have everything accounted for and no more hidden garbage should be lingering around. I've also changed the color scheme again, because honestly, that intense purplish / magenta / whatever-you-wanna-call-it color that the background used to be was sort of an eyesore after a while. From now on, the site's color, design, and text formatting conventions are being defined with a cascading stylesheet, thus making any future aesthetic fine-tunings that much easier. It really is a time-waster to have to edit and update ten files instead of just one, after all... Oh, and as always, I caught a few more typos. :)

2004 - 01 - 31

New text design scheme implemented site-wide (that's a "mind-bashingly high IQ" way of saying I changed the font and then accordingly adjusted the size of the banner text on some of the site's pages). Caught a few more typos (when aren't I catching more of those?) and yet more messy/redundant HTML code was weeded out. A few broken links here and there were also fixed.

2003 - 09 - 24

IOG listings are updated - Framwinkle contacted me and had me update his info. That confirms it, someone out there does still care! :) Also corrected yet more typos that I managed to miss (I wonder if I'll ever get 'em all... *sigh* it feels hopeless sometimes, but I keep trying). Next update should be bigger, I'm hoping to scrounge up a fair amount of good new content to add at some point.

2003 - 09 - 02

Cleaned up a few mistakes in the Gadgetisms page, caught a couple broken links in the links section. Nothing big, just a general tuneup all around.

2003 - 08 - 27

Index page is back to normal. Unfortunately, the counter that had been in use since 1998 broke, and the domain it was hosted on only gave me a DNS error when I went looking for it, so I suppose that's about the end of that. Oh well, a five year run is nothing to sneer at, I guess. Also fixed a bunch of messy HTML still lurking in the index page's code.

2003 - 08 - 19

Removed the last few lingering instances of the previous maintainer's name, at his request. Also fixed a couple broken links that were my fault (Oops! ^_^'). I think that fixes everything for now. To quote our favorite mouse, "It should work..."

2003 - 08 - 12

Turned the index page black in mourning for the death of Andrew Bell (Andy AKA MOnty from the Acorn Cafe). I'm not sure when it'll be restored, probably once I have time to create some sort of fitting memorial to for Andy. I have no idea just now what that'll be.

2003 - 08 - 07

Site has a new home. It now resides at http://winston.ieatleet.co.uk/gadget/. Rangerity and Gadgetism tests now have stashed local copies to ensure that they'll be available in the future. (I asked for permission, but haven't yet gotten a response to the e-mail I tried sending Candy Courtnier. I hope she doesn't mind.) Also, restored the two audio clips I had been forced to remove, now that server space isn't so badly limited.

2003 - 08 - 05

Fixed about a million (or was it two or three million?) lingering typos. Cleaned up many of the .gif images that came with the site so that they should all now be properly transparent without too much obvious raggedness in their edges. Fiddled around with the background colors, and finally decided on a single uniform purple color for all the colored pages (white backgrounded pages will stay white). Gave the Ranger Code a very thorough proofreading and did a lot of clarification on various parts of it, hopefully it'll be easier to use now.

New site ownership. Many minor updates, broken links fixed / removed if unfixable, spelling corrections like crazy. Replaced Jazz's previous site banner with a new one that I created (the old one had his name on it, and he's made it clear that he doesn't want any more association with this site). All original content will be retained as much as possible, while still making this a completely functional site.
- Winston, new owner and maintainer
